Drutt Grid: Maximize Performance, Lower Costs 5,200 requests per second in IBM benchmark tests

Stockholm, Sweden, 2004-02-19
Drutt Corporation, the market leading provider of device management and content integration products for mobile data services, announce the release of Drutt Grid, a high performing deployment architecture for Drutt products. It is structured as a cluster of servers where many small computers act and behave as one, big. By sharing and distributing processing power, the overall system performance is improved.

Drutt Grid offers dramatic benefits to mobile operators running large-scale implementations of Service Delivery infrastructure. It makes it possible to easily configure high availability, high performance systems with 100% redundancy and linear scaling– while lowering the total cost of ownership.

The architecture renders superb availability. If one instance fails, the system will continue to function without disruptions. This is achieved by removal of “sticky sessions” dependency - all session data is broadcasted in real time to all servers in a grid cluster.

The grid architecture drastically simplifies configuration, management and maintenance of large systems. New servers added to the cluster are self-configured and booted in a matter of seconds. Together with Drutt’s Virtual Network Management support in all products, the entire grid can be configured, managed and monitored as a single virtual server.

Drutt Grid can be deployed on any hardware and operating system. Stress tests on Intel-based servers running Linux have been conducted at the IBM Linux Service Provider Lab, Oregon. Results are very encouraging, both in terms of performance and scalability: Running the application Drutt Rendering 3.0 on a cluster of 10 IBM Blade Servers, the system could process 5,200 requests per second and scale at a factor of 0.9. The number of nodes that can be added to a grid segment is only limited by the available inter-node networking bandwidth, typically gigabit or higher. Full results of the study are available for download at www.drutt.com

All products from Drutt Corporation can be deployed on the grid architecture. Drutt Grid is shipped with new releases of Drutt products, starting with Drutt Rendering 3.0 by the end of Q1, 2004

“Moving from serving the current 3-4% of end users to a situation where 25-30% of revenues come from premium mobile data services will pose a real challenge to operators” comments Jonas Wilhelmsson, VP Marketing, Drutt Corporation. “Guaranteeing quality of service at high transaction load could make infrastructure investments skyrocket. Drutt Grid is the answer - more performance for less money”.

Magnus Lönnroth, CTO at Drutt Corporation, says: “The grid provides exactly what the application server industry has talked about for a decade without delivering. We offer linear scalability and lower the total cost of ownership due to centralized management and on-the-fly upgrades. It’s a powerful story.”

Drutt Corporation representatives are present and available for meetings at 3GSM World Congress, Cannes, 23-27 February.
